Robert J. Kasunic recently retired from the U.S. Copyright Office after 25 years of distinguished service, including 12 years as Associate Register of Copyrights and Director of Registration Policy and Practice. In that role, he oversaw the U.S. copyright registration system, advised the Register of Copyrights on registration policy and interpretation of copyright law, and played a leading role in the development of the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices, Third Edition and efforts to modernize the copyright registration system. A nationally recognized copyright expert with more than three decades of experience, Kasunic has published numerous articles and spoken at hundreds of copyright events. He is also a longtime member of the AUWCL community, having taught Advanced Copyright Law as an Adjunct Professor since 2003, and previously taught at Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his B.A. from Columbia University.
