Authors Alliance and UC Berkeley Library’s Office of Scholarly Communication and Information Policy

This is the fourth event in our Fall Workshop Series for academic authors, a collaboration between Authors Alliance and UC Berkeley Office of Scholarly Communication and Information Policy. This series is geared towards new academic authors, but all authors are welcome to attend. Please feel free to share with your classmates and colleagues.

This workshop will help you navigate the legal and practical questions that AI tools raise for academic authors. We'll cover how using generative AI in your research and writing can affect your copyright and authorship, what current publisher and journal policies require you to disclose, and how AI training on scholarly work intersects with your rights as an author. You'll leave with a working understanding of where the law currently stands, what remains unsettled, and how to make informed choices about using these tools in your own work.
